Your mum has requested that you help to prepare a
simple nutritious dish (main course, accompaniment,
dessert, snack etc.) for both your younger sister and
you. She has given you $10 to purchase the ingredients
at the neighbourhood supermarket. Plan your lunch
menu, taking into account the given budget. Explain
your choice of ingredients used and the dish you have
decided to cook.
- Prepared using healthy cooking methods (aka : grilling vs deep frying, stir frying vs boiling) and healthy ingredients (olive oil over cooking oil, low fat milk over full fat milk, yoghurt over cream etc)
- Simple, able to be prepared under 1 hour
- $10 (Ingredients used must not be too costly)
- Neighbourhood supermarket (ingredients used must be easily found)
- Must prepare 2 servings
My sister :
My sister is 10 years old. She's a health freak with a soft spot for cookies. She is also, unfortunately, the greatest miser a 10 year-old can be.
Whenever we go to the supermarket to replenish our food stashes, she would rant and rave at the food choices.
"Look at the carbohydrates in this one!!!!!!!" she will hiss as she pushes the pack of innocent biscuits further back on the shelf.
"Oh gosh there's MSG in this. And it's supposed to be the healthier choice" she will spit with disdain as she rolls her eyes at the bottle of salad dressing
"OH MY GOSH WHY WHY WHY I FINALLY FOUND SOMETHING THAT WILL NOT GIVE ME CANCER OR MAKE ME BLOATED BUT IT'S SO EXPENSIVE" she wails at the packet of all-natural organic cookies.
"JOANNE JIE JIE. Can you like- actually bake something so I don't have to go through this every Sunday." she moans as she gives an accusing glare to everything on the shelves.
....
And so, I cook and bake.
And modify recipes so they have about 56% less fat and no oil * so my whiny little sister can have a break.
